8 Things To Think About When Writing A Will

When writing your Last Will and Testament, there are a few important things to keep in mind. Here are eight things to think about:

1. Make a list of your assets and debts.
Make a list of all your assets, including property, savings, investments, and any other valuables. This will help your executor to determine what needs to be taken care of and distributed according to your wishes.

2. Choose an executor for your Will.
This is the person who will be responsible for carrying out your wishes and ensuring that your affairs are in order. Choose someone you trust implicitly and who is organized and capable of handling such a task.

3. Choose beneficiaries for your assets.
A beneficiary is anyone who will receive something from your estate after you pass away. Be sure to include not only family members but also close friends, charities, or anyone else.

4. Decide what should happen to your minor children in the event of your death.
If you have young children, you may want to include guardianship arrangements in your Last Will.

5. Are there any special circumstances to consider?
For example, do you have young children or a disabled spouse who will need extra care? Be sure to make provisions for them in your Will.

6.  Name an alternate executor.
You may have someone in mind to serve as your executor, but what if they are unable or unwilling to do so? It's important to name an alternate executor in your Will, in case your first choice is unable to fulfill the role.

7. Make sure your Will is properly witnessed and signed.
In order for a Will to be legally binding, it must be signed by two witnesses. These witnesses must be adults who are not related to you or named in the Will.

8. Keep your Last Will and Testament up to date.
As your life changes, so too should your Will. Be sure to review it periodically and make any necessary changes.  If there have been any major changes in your life, such as a birth, death, marriage, or divorce, you will need to update your will accordingly.

Making a Will is an important step in ensuring that your wishes are carried out after you die. By taking the time to consider these important factors, you can ensure that your final wishes are carried out exactly as you intended.
